Sunshine, free time, and days spent with friends.
While I love all seasons of the year, summer is one of my personal favourites because it gives me the opportunity to visit my friends across the sea who I don’t always get to see. There is always something to do and someone to see and I love wasting my days away in the sun with my friends. Rain or shine, summer days are some of my favourite.
So, I thought I would share some of my favourite things to do in the summer months and maybe give those of you wasting away indoors a little bit of inspiration!
- Spending days at the Lake.
And when I say days, I mean DAYS. This summer me and my friends spent almost everyday going to our local lake paddle boarding, swimming, and even cliff jumping! There is nothing better than a cooling bit of swimming on a hot day, plus if you go with friends you’ll always end up having a good time tipping each other off paddle boards, splashing around and generally acting like idiots together.
Another one of my friend group’s favourite pass times. Almost every single night of the summer you can count on us meeting up at someone’s bonfire, making smores, listening to music and having an all around good time. These are some of the best times as although you’re not really doing much of anything, its great fun to just goof around with your friends and have a good time just hanging out.
Some of my best memories from this summer have been spent around a fire pit and I cannot recommend it enough. And if you want even more fun, have some friends come over early to set up a bunch of tents and have everyone sleep over for the night. It is guaranteed chaos, but staying up until the early hours of the morning with your crazy friends is one of the best ways you can spend a night – plus it provides the opportunity for all the more inevitable 1am McDonald’s runs.
3. Road trips.
For those days when you can’t for the life of you think of anything to do, just driving around to the nearest place that looks good can be fun! I love driving around with friends in the summer, DJ in the passenger seat, windows down, screaming out your favourite summer songs as you drive down the highway. Sometimes the best memories come from just goofing around with your friends and laughing, and those are the times you have to make the most of, especially when they’re friends that you don’t get to see all that often.
And you don’t always need good weather to make a good summer. One of my all time favourite memories is from a few summers ago when me and a group of friends took a drive out to my house in the pouring rain. We ended up on my road, me in the front seat (with only a permit), windows rolled down and my friends all hanging on the outside of the car in the pouring rain, laughing till our stomachs hurt as we tried pointlessly to stop the rain pouring into the car and I tried to keep us on a straight path. Accidentally driving the hanging passengers on the right side of the car straight into a bush and failing 100% at keeping the car dry, I can say it was a strong success. We were a mess as we pulled into my house, drenched to the bone and bush beaten, but we spent the whole afternoon laughing as we dried ourselves off. That is one day I won’t ever forget.
4. Concerts in the Park.
Now, this isn’t something that everywhere does, but it is one of my favourite parts about our home town. Every Tuesday there is a small concert in the local park and it’s amazing fun to roll up with a group of friends and a bunch of blankets and sit and enjoy the concert. Whether everyone sits and talks over the music or all of you get up and dance by the main stage, you are guaranteed a good time.
Another amazing thing about the summer months is that it’s warm enough for you to enjoy sitting outside late at night and staring up at the stars. One night this summer, me and some of my friends went out on the lake late at night in canoes and went stargazing. With the pitch black lake reflecting the beautiful stars above, the sky seemed never-ending and it was honestly one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. (Obviously be careful with this one, I am not to be held responsible for any capsizing incidents which will most probably occur, stargazing from a field is always good too!).
And that is what I love about the summer! If I could recommend one thing to do this summer more than anything, it would be to spend as much time as you can with your friends. They really do make life all the better. I hope everyone has an amazing summer and I would love to hear about anything anyone is up to in the comments!
